A photographer's view on Dunedin's wildlife
2026 calender

Albatrosses, penguins, sea lions and so much more – during my stay in Dunedin as a 16 years old international student from Germany I have already had lots of special wildlife encounters around town. Although the official reason for me coming to Dunedin was experiencing high school in a different country, the main reason for me coming here has always been the amazing nature of the country! (if you want to find out more about me click here)
The calender features well-known species like the Hoiho/Yellow-eyed Penguin and New Zealand Sea Lion, but also less prominent species that can be found in the area like the Rifleman, New Zealands smallest bird and the Fernbird, a rare secret bird. I hope you can can learn something new about the remarkable wildlife right on your doorstep.
Introduced predators are a significant threat for New Zeland’s wildlife and one of the main reasons that many of the featured species are endangered nowadays. To support these species $5 will be donated to the Halo Project in Dunedin for each calender sold. The project operates in the region around Orokonui Ecosanctury and is aiming to restore the indigenous biodiversity of the area. The main fields of work are predator control and reforestation with more than 270,000 native plants planted with the help of volunteers so far. If you want to take action in conservation you can participate in one of the regularly organised volunteering days. By volunteering myself I experienced the great work they do and got to know the lovely people behind this amazing project. For more information visit the project’s website here.
Due to the currency change, the calenders cannot be paid directly on this website unfortunately.
